| LIMESCALE |
| Limestone is present in all coastal areas. As rain water passes through it, it dissolves adding calcium carbonate ions to the water, resulting hard water. When subjected to changes in temperature and pressure, hard water forms crystals which become solid as argonite, better known as limescale. |
| Valencia is the hard water capital of Spain, and limescale (cal) is a big problem blocking pipes, damaging pumps and washing machines and water heaters etc. |
| The traditional domestic solution is a large water filter costing over 1200 euros, which needs to be topped up with salt every few months to keep it working. When all else fails, an expensive chemical treatment is required break down the limescale - not very ecological. |
| LIMESCALE PREVENTION WITH HYDROPATH |
